Registration for Henrico Rec and Parks' fall programs begins Aug. 17
Henrico County residents can begin registering Monday, Aug. 17, for Henrico Recreation and Parks’ fall lineup of classes, programs and activities, which will run primarily from September through November.
Online registration will open at 7 a.m. Aug. 17 for county residents, with registration for non-Henrico residents opening at 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21.
The county’s new fall program guide features offerings for children, teens, adults and families, as well as community events, history programs, performing arts, therapeutic recreation and fitness activities.
Among the youth offerings requiring advance registration are American Sign Language classes for children ages 7-12, cookie-decorating workshops, cooking classes for ages 10-15, beginner and intermediate guitar classes, archery programs and a one-day STEM camp. A volunteer program also will give teens ages 13-18 opportunities to earn service hours by helping at parks, special events and recreation programs.
Adult and family options include glass fusion, pottery, stained glass, needlepoint, jewelry-making and a variety of seasonal art projects. Most Recreation and Parks programs are free.
The fall schedule also features a number of free community events. Jazz in the Park will feature The Chan Hall Experience at Deep Run Park Sept. 6, while HenBIKEo will bring cyclocross races, trails, demo bikes, vendors, music and children's activities to Crump Park Sept. 12. Glen Allen Day is scheduled for Sept. 19 at Meadow Farm and Crump Park and will include a parade, festival, live music, children's games and more than 100 exhibitors.
Other highlights include Soulful Sunday Oct. 4 at Eastern Henrico Recreation Center; the Plant Native! Festival Oct. 24 at Dorey Park; and “1776: Signing Day,” an American Revolution-themed living-history event Nov. 7 at Meadow Farm.
Residents may register online at the county's Recreation and Parks registration site or in person. Walk-in registration is available from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at Deep Run and Eastern Henrico recreation centers and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at Belmont and Dorey recreation centers.
Winter camp registration will open Nov. 2 for Henrico residents and Nov. 9 for non-residents, if space remains available.
