Obituary - Jean Earline Johnston

Jean Earline Johnston, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia. She was 89 years old.
Although she was born and raised just outside of King, NC, Jean was a longtime resident of the Lakeside area here in Richmond, VA
Jean was preceded in death by her devoted husband William Cramer Johnston, Jr. Together, they built a strong and loving family that was the center of her world.
She was also proceeded in death by her 3 sisters and 2 brothers, Evelyn Burton, MaryBelle Tuttle, Dorothy Chevrette, Junior Bennett, and Larry Bennett. Also, a grandchild, Jennifer Holloway.
Jean is survived by her four children: Steve Johnston (Shirley), Sheila Willoughby, Ricky Johnston (Julie), and David Johnston (Michelle). She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, along with other nieces and nephews all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy. A special thanks to her caretaker Denise Clarke.
She was a faithful member of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, where she was active for many years until her health declined due to dementia. Her church community and her faith were foundational parts of her life.
Jean worked for many years at William Byrd Press where her attention to detail and strong work ethic were well known. Outside of work and church, she found great joy in tending to her flower garden. Her yard was often admired as one of the most beautiful on the block-a reflection of the care and love she poured into all she did.
Jean will be remembered most for her deep love of family and friends, which she expressed every chance she got. Her kind heart, warm hugs, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 8th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's Funeral Home on Staples Mill Road, Henrico, VA. A graveside service will take place on Friday, May 9th, at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jean's memory to Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church.
