Henrico Police seek tips in 2000 cold case involving baby found in landfill
On Aug. 10, 2000, employees at the landfill on Charles City Road made a horrifying discovery: a dead baby wrapped in a blanket.
No arrests have been made in connection with the infant's death, but Henrico Police now are seeking the public's assistance in providing additional information, after new details have emerged.
Police discovered recently that there was a pregnant woman who frequented the area around The Diamond in the City of Richmond at about the time the baby's body was discovered. The woman reportedly had the same or a similar blanket to the one in which the baby was found wrapped, but police have not been able to identify the baby's mother.
Detectives within the Henrico County Police Division’s Cold Case Review Team are working to conduct additional testing on evidence collected in this case.
Preliminary information at the time of the incident indicated the baby was wrapped in a geometric-colorful blanket and then disposed of in a dumpster located in the 7400 block of Tack Room Drive in Hanover County, possibly a few days prior to the discovery.
Employees at the landfill found the body just before 9:40 a.m. Aug. 10, 2000.
