A Henrico Juvenile Court judge found a daycare director guilty on one of two counts of failing to report suspected child abuse, issuing a split ruling Monday.

Laressa Jefferson was fined $500 as required by state law.

The charges stemmed from Laressa Jefferson being a mandatory reporter as she worked as the director of the KinderCare daycare center on Cedar Fork Road in Henrico where a former worker, Bethany Davis, was charged with seven counts of assault and battery against children there.

Jefferson was accused of failing to report the alleged abuse on two separate occasions.

In a statement, a spokesperson for KinderCare said Jefferson was no longer employed by them:

"LaRessa Jefferson is no longer a KinderCare employee. She has been on administrative leave since mid-July when we first learned of the accusations against her. She has not been in our Cedar Fork Road center, any KinderCare center, while we, and authorities, investigated the concerns around her duties as a mandated reporter," the company spokesperson said.
