Henrico firefighter killed in hit-and-run remembered as the 'perfect rookie'
The Henrico Division of Fire is mourning the loss of one of its own. Virginia State Police say Ashtain Noel Davis, 28, was killed in late September when a dark-colored SUV struck his motorcycle on Interstate 64. Davis was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.
"We're doing our best to keep each other up. It's a tragic situation, very unexpected," Lt. Ross Myers said.
At Station 7 on Laburnum Avenue, Myers and firefighter Zachary Sayles say the loss was deeply personal. "We're just doing our best to take care of one another as a typical family would," Myers said.
To them, Davis wasn't just a fellow firefighter. "He was a brother," Sayles said.
"He was the perfect little brother, he was the perfect rookie. And that's what I'm going to remember most. My first rookie being the perfect rookie," Myers said.
