9-year-old boy dies after potential drowning at Henrico pool

A nine-year-old boy is dead after a possible drowning in a Henrico County pool, where he was attending a SwimRVA summer camp.

Henrico Police officers were called to the 300 block of North Wilkinson Road around 2:40 p.m. June 15 for a reported medical emergency.

First responders found the boy, who was unresponsive after being pulled out of a pool.

The boy was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

On Monday evening, SwimRVA released a statement regarding the incident which stated:

“It is with profound sadness that we report that, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15, a participant in our summer camp was unresponsive after being removed from the pool.

Pool staff immediately began CPR and continued lifesaving efforts until paramedics and [Henrico County Division of Fire] personnel arrived and assumed care. The child was transported to the hospital, where he passed away.

Our hearts are with the child’s family and loved ones during this loss. We extend our deepest condolences and are keeping them and all those affected by this tragedy in our thoughts.

We are cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities as they review the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
