Virginia Medicaid outreach campaign launches ahead of 2027 work rules
A national outreach campaign called Keep Your Care has launched in Virginia to help certain Medicaid recipients understand new federal work and reporting requirements scheduled to begin Jan. 1, 2027.
The requirements apply to many adults ages 19 through 64 who receive Medicaid Expansion coverage, though exemptions apply. Virginia Medicaid says affected adults generally will need to work, attend school, participate in job training or perform community service for at least 80 hours a month, unless they qualify through another pathway or exemption.
The state also will review Medicaid Expansion eligibility every six months instead of annually. Virginia Medicaid says it will use information already available to the state to verify eligibility whenever possible.
Keep Your Care is an independent nonprofit campaign, not a government agency. Its Virginia site links users to official state resources and provides information about qualifying activities and exemptions.
