Obituary - Sonya Houston White
Sonya Houston White, 60, of Henrico, entered her eternal home on Monday, August 10, 2026, going peacefully in her sleep. She was the daughter of John Marcus Houston and Ethel Lee Robinson Houston. Sonya was born on November 1, 1965 in Atlanta Georgia.
Soon after her birth, the family traveled back to Virginia where she would call home for the majority of her life. At an early age, she was baptized at First Union Baptist Church, located on the corner of Elizabeth and Moore Street, now on 3510 Dill Road.
She was an accomplished student of The Richmond Public School system and graduated from Marshall-Walker High School in 1983. After graduating she furthered her education at Hampton University.
Sonya was married to Forrest A. White, Jr. and from that union two sons were born, Forrest A. White III and Ira L. White.
Her employment history included: Home Shop, Overnight Trucking Company, Best Products, Sears and Van Go. Sonya also was employed by Richmond Public Schools for 15 years; a majority of that time spent working at her beloved Amelia Street School.
Sonya had many joys and passions in her life. She loved listening to music with friends, caring for her dogs (Lucy, Rosie and Coco), traveling and most of all spending quality time with her family.
When she left Georgia to come to Virginia, that was Sonya’s first time being on a plane and even got her silver wings for being such a good passenger; we guess that’s where her love of traveling began.
Sonya had the most caring heart and shared it with everyone she came to know; from the youngest child to the oldest soul.
Left to cherish her memories are two sons, Forrest A. White III and Ira L. White; mother, Ethel R. Houston; father, John M. Houston (Sharon); brother, Akili Obika (Saba); three aunts, Gladys Johnson, Mary Robinson and Delores Manning; one uncle, Henry Houston (Elise); two nieces, Anoa and Rashida Obika; three nephews, Okera, Ahoto (Camille) and Atiba Obika; devoted cousins, Tracy Robinson, Martha Carter and Jean Gaines; one niece-in-love, Jamila N. White and a host of beloved family and friends.
