Martha A. Caruso, age 99, died in her sleep August 19, 2026. Born in April 1927, on Easter morning in Johnstown, PA. She spent much of her early life in and around Washington, D.C. and Ohio.

During some summers and after classes, while in high school, she worked for the Office of Naval Affairs with early computers. After graduating High School in 1945, she went to work for Veterans Administration. She met her husband, Jerry Caruso, while he was on leave from the Navy and touring DC with his other sailor buddies. They were staying at a hotel across from the offices where Martha worked. They married in June 1948 and moved to New York. They lived first in the Bronx, and later in Haverstraw, NY, where they raised their family. She was a homemaker for many years, who enjoyed learning and took classes for cooking, gardening, flower arranging, and many other things. She was very proud of her extensive Tulip garden. In 1966 Martha took her children on a cross-country camping adventure. Six weeks from New York to many of the western National Parks and back. They arrived back in Haverstraw at 10 pm the night before school started for the kids.

1972 – 74 Martha and Jim moved to North Canton, OH, then in 1974 Martha, Holly and Jim moved to Richmond to be near her sister. Martha worked first as a Med Tech and later as a Pharmacy Tech at St. Mary’s hospital until retirement in 1989.

Martha was a long-time member of the River Road Church, Baptist. She enjoyed traveling with her sister Mary Ellen and other friends with the River Roadsters; She also attended various Elder Hostel classes with her sister and cousin Marilyn Heine.

She was preceded in death by her parents J. Albert Fink, Sr. and Edith Fink, sister Mary Ellen Berry, brother James A Fink, Jr., and sister Edith Skidmore.

Martha is survived by her children Candy Foss, Holly Caruso, and Jim Caruso (Alexandra); Grandchildren Erica Greer, Will Foss (April), Jimmy James Caruso, and April Caruso; great grandchildren Chase Foss, Sage Greer, and Rex Caruso; and great great-granddaughter one week old Adeline Jane Foss.

There will be a celebration of life scheduled at a later date.
