Obituary - Reginald Junior Ashby
On Thursday, August 6, 2026, our beloved Reginald Junior Ashby, of Glen Allen, unexpectedly departed this life. He was residing at Elizabeth Adam Crump Nursing Home when he answered the call of God and received his heavenly wings.
Several years ago, surrounded by his loving family, Reginald acknowledged Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and committed his life to Christ.
Reginald was born at St. Phillip's Hospital in Richmond. He was affectionally known as "Buzzard" or "Blue". He grew up in downtown Richmond on Marshall Street and attended Carver Elementary School, Benjamin Graves Middle School and was a proud graduate of Maggie L. Walker High School, Class of 1970. He played for the Mighty Green Dragons Football Team and was loved by his former team players.
In the early 70's he went to work for Philip Morris but unfortunately was laid off when they had a reduction in force. After that, Reginald began working different construction jobs through temp agencies. He later fell in love with the "bright" lights of the City of Richmond. He had a lively personality and was a gentle giant and a protector of his mother and sisters. In the late 1990's - 2000's, he became ill with dementia and became a resident at different assisted living and nursing home facilities.
Reginald was preceded in death by his father, Reginald Ashby, Sr. and his sister, Gladys Bryant.
Left to cherish and mourn his memory are his son, Reginald Giles (Tanya); two grandsons; loving mother, Dinella Ashby; two sisters, Diane and Gwendolyn Ashby; two brothers, Robert L. (Diane) and Allen (Miranda) Ashby; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, one special friend, Weldon Edwards.
