Shannon Maupin and Ricardo Pinzon of Henrico and Tahlia Williams of Glen Allen served on the Student Insight Council for the 2025-26 academic year at the University of Maryland Global Campus. These volunteers played a vital role in shaping the UMGC experience by providing feedback that helps create a stronger future for the university community.
Two students from Henrico County recently were initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Jayna Lin Dorsey, a student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and Cynthia Leal, a student at the University of California-Davis. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger recently announced the following appointments to her administration: Latino Advisory Board – Anita Nadal of Glen Allen, assistant professor and faculty fellow for community engagement, Virginia Commonwealth University; Legislative Advisory Council to the Southern Regional Education Board – Sen. Lashrecse Aird, 13th Senate District; Science Museum of Virginia – Gina Burgin of Henrico, deputy general counsel, Dominion Energy; Air and Space Center Board of Directors – William Coleman of Henrico, senior program manager, CommonSpirit Health; and Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Service Organizations – Robert Pryor of Henrico, military outreach representative, office of Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan.
Mary Christine Helms of Henrico graduated summa cum laude May 9 from Furman University in South Carolina. Helms earned a bachelor’s degree in Classics and Psychology.
The following local students graduated in May from the University of Mississippi: Abigail Campbell, Kenneth Boyd, Charles Butcher, Matthew Monahan, Alexander Chernoff and John Davis, of Henrico; and Olivia Simpson and Tate Plageman, of Glen Allen.
Nicholas Birindelli of Henrico recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity from the University of Tampa in Florida.
Lily Budzinski and Nicholas Birindelli of Henrico and Sophia Nguyen of Glen Allen were named to the spring 2026 dean’s list at the University of Tampa in Florida. To qualify for this honor, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher.
Soung Bin Kwon of Henrico was named to the spring 2026 honor list at Minnesota State University. To be eligible for the honor list, students must earn a grade point average of 3.5-3.99 for the semester.
Moksh Shah of Henrico earned faculty honors for the spring 2026 semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have earned a 4.0 academic average for the semester.
Javier Rodriguez of Glen Allen was named to the spring 2026 dean’s list at the Georgia Institute of Technology. To qualify for this honor, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Anthony Fisher of Henrico was named to the spring 2026 chancellor’s honor roll with high honors at the University of Tennessee at Martin. To qualify for this honor, students taking at least 12 credit hours must earn a grade point average of 3.5-3.79 for the semester.
