GRTC ends Route 56 service in Eastern Henrico Oct. 17, following expansion of LINK zone

Table of Contents

The Greater Richmond Transit Company Oct. 17 is ending Route 56, which provides bus service along a corridor between downtown Richmond and Richmond International Airport in Sandston. The route also serves the White Oak Village shopping center in Eastern Henrico.

The change will take effect several months after GRTC expanded its Sandston LINK zone, which serves the same region.

The change is designed to give riders greater flexibility and easier connections to other parts of the region. With the expansion, Sandston LINK now links directly to major GRTC routes — including 4A and 4B, 7A and 7B, 91, and Pulse rapid transit service — allowing riders to travel beyond the immediate Eastern Henrico region.

LINK is a free on-demand service that provides curb-to-curb rides within designated zones. Riders can book trips through the GRTC On the Go app or by calling (804) 358-4782. The service is wheelchair-accessible when requested through the app or by phone.
