Glen Allen student awarded $20,000 national scholarship for service to veterans
A Glen Allen student has been recognized among the nation's top youth volunteers for service to veterans, earning a $20,000 scholarship from Disabled American Veterans.
Faribah Nuha of Glen Allen was awarded the organization's $20,000 scholarship as one of 15 recipients selected nationwide through the 2026 DAV Scholarships program. The scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional volunteer service to veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Program or DAV's Local Veterans Assistance Program.
The scholarships were presented Aug. 1 during the 2026 DAV and Auxiliary National Convention in Orlando, Florida.
Nuha received the program's second-highest scholarship award, behind only the top $30,000 scholarship presented to Noah Omura of Columbia, South Carolina.
"Each one of our scholarship recipients has done significant and meaningful work helping our nation's veterans, and we are so proud of what they've done," DAV National Commander Coleman Nee said. "We hope their spirit of volunteerism inspires other students to spend time helping veterans, too."
The annual DAV Scholarships program honors students for their commitment to improving the lives of military veterans through volunteer service. Fifteen scholarships totaling more than $150,000 were awarded this year to students from across the United States.
Virginia students claimed two of the 15 national awards. In addition to Nuha's $20,000 scholarship, Ayla Zook of King George received a $10,000 scholarship. Other recipients hailed from South Carolina, West Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, South Dakota, New York, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, California, Illinois and Kentucky.
DAV is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering veterans and their families by helping them access benefits and services earned through military service while advocating on their behalf nationwide.
