A 41-year-old Texas man riding a motorcycle on Interstate 295 in Henrico County on the morning of Oct. 26 died after he struck an exposed lip between the lanes and crashed, police said.
Virginia State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash at 11:15 a.m. on northbound 295, about a tenth of a mile north of Airport Drive, according to a police news release.
The 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle was driven by Joshua Ballard of Bowie, Texas. Police said Ballard and his passenger, a 26-year-old woman from Fountain, Colorado, were thrown from the motorcycle when it hit the exposed lip, which was a result of recent repaving and resurfacing work. Both were wearing helmets.
Ballard and the woman were taken to a local hospital, where Ballard died from his injuries. The woman is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.
