2 residential fires in Henrico deemed accidental

Investigators with the Henrico Fire Marshal’s Office have determined that two residential fires in the county that occurred within an hour of each other July 15 were accidental, the result of cooking in the homes' kitchens.

The fires were located less than 10 miles apart – one in the Brookland District and one in the Three Chopt District.

The first fire occurred in the 8200 block of Notre Dame Drive shortly after 8 p.m. Smoke and flames were visible when firefighters arrived on scene. They were able to rescue a woman from the home’s second floor using ladders to bring her outside. She was transported to VCU Medical Center in critical condition but is now recovering and in stable condition.

Less than an hour later, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a second residential fire took place in the 11400 block of Sadler Walk Lane. When fire crews arrived at the scene, smoke was showing from the second floor of the building.

A woman was able to get out of the house but suffered severe injuries. Firefighters transferred her to VCU Medical Center, where she is currently listed in stable condition.
