VDOT planning shoulder closures, sign work and long-term projects throughout Henrico

Motorists in Henrico County should expect a series of daytime shoulder closures and mobile work zones along several major corridors in the coming weeks, as the Virginia Department of Transportation undertakes sign installation, litter pickup and ongoing construction projects.

Most of the work will occur along interstates 64, 95 and 295, with crews primarily closing shoulders rather than travel lanes. Although full lane closures are not expected in most cases, drivers may encounter brief slowdowns, particularly during active work periods.

In addition to short-term operations like litter removal and sign updates, several long-term projects — including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) installations, such as applications like sensors and communication technologies designed to improve transportation safety, efficiency, and sustainability — will continue through late 2026, especially along the I-95 corridor.

Work schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change, according to VDOT officials.
