This Day in Henrico History: October 29 – Future Brookland supervisor Dick Glover is born

On October 29, 1934, Richard Wade “Dick” Glover was born in Victoria, Virginia. He would later make his home in Glen Allen and become one of the most enduring figures in Henrico County government.

Glover’s route to public office included Navy service and a business career. His obituary states that he owned printing and direct-mail businesses. He entered county public service on the Planning Commission before winning election to the Board of Supervisors in 1987 and taking office in January 1988.

He represented the Brookland District until his death on February 2, 2017. Henrico’s contemporary tribute identified him as the board’s longest-serving active member and noted that he had just been selected for a sixth turn as chairman.

Projects he championed included the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, the Glen Allen Stadium at RF&P Park, and Greenwood Park. Remembering his birthday connects the life of a man born outside Henrico with a long period of service shaping the county’s cultural, recreational, and civic institutions.
