SwimRVA-North fire caused by electrical failure, officials determine
The Henrico Fire Marshal's Office has determined a fire that destroyed the SwimRVA-North main pool house in July was accidental in nature, caused by an electrical failure within the building. The fire occurred shortly after 1 a.m., Tuesday, July 7.
“Our fire investigators carried out this work with a great deal of care and precision,” said Henrico Fire Marshal Scott Sutton, who is the deputy chief of special operations and compliance. “We are painfully aware that this is the second devastating call for emergency response at this location. We can state with certainty that the fire and the previous incident on June 15 when a young boy lost his life are unrelated. There is no evidence of suspicious activity related to this incident.”
In the early stages of the investigation, the Fire Marshal's Office requested the use of Chesterfield County Fire and EMS’ accelerant detection dog, but no areas of concern were identified.
Henrico Fire initially responded to a call for service in the 300 block of North Wilkinson Road for a report of a brush fire caused by lightning striking a tree. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke rising from a single-story building on site. There were no injuries associated with the fire.
