Obituary - Thomas Bryan Ingram
Thomas Bryan Ingram, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and accomplished musician, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia. Born on September 28, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, Tom lived a life dedicated to faith, family, and music.
Tom’s early years were spent in Atlanta, where he graduated from Southwest High School. His passion for music and ministry led him to pursue higher education at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He furthered his studies at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where he honed his skills and deepened his commitment to serving others through music.
Tom’s faith journey began at West End Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga. His participation in various music activities at West End Baptist, along with growing in his faith in Jesus Christ, led Tom to make the commitment to full-time Christian service.
Tom’s career was a testament to his unwavering dedication to both music and faith. He began as Minister of Music at Bon Air Baptist Church in Richmond (1974–1977) before continuing his ministry at College Park Baptist Church in Danville (1977–1983). During this time, he also served as an Associate Professor of Music and Christian Studies at Averett College in Danville. From 1983 to 1994, Tom was the Minister of Music at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church in Richmond—a congregation that remained close to his heart throughout his life. Later in his career, he became a Consultant for Music and Worship with the Virginia Baptist Mission Board in Richmond and served as Director of the Virginia Baptist Male Chorale. Tom served as interim Minister of Music in churches all across the state of Virginia.
In 1988, Tom joined The Centurymen, an esteemed 100-member male chorus composed of professional music directors and church leaders. Traveling the United States and the world sharing the gospel through music gave Tom friendships and experiences that lasted a lifetime.
Beyond his professional achievements, Tom found joy in giving back to his community. After retiring in 2017, he volunteered at the Food Pantry at Tabernacle Baptist Church and Lamb’s Basket in Richmond. He also supported local youth through his involvement with the Hermitage High School Band Boosters from 1997 to 2003.
Tom was a cherished member of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church for 43 years and a steadfast presence within its congregation. In 2024, Tom was named Minister of Music Emeritus at Hatcher.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Peggy Stewart Ingram; two sons: Bryan Stewart Ingram (Lindsay) and Joel Thomas Ingram (Megan); and four grandchildren: Carson Thomas Ingram, Savannah Grace Ingram, Chloe Michelle Ingram, and River Jean Ingram. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas H. Ingram and Henrietta B. Ingram.
Throughout his life’s journey—from Atlanta to Richmond—Tom touched countless lives with his kindness, talent, and devotion. His greatest joy came from time spent with his family. Vacations at Emerald Isle NC, were especially meaningful to Tom. His pride and love for sons, Bryan and Joel, was evident as he watched them grow into outstanding men. Becoming “Gramps” to Carson, Savannah, Chloe and River brought a whole new level of love. May Thomas Bryan Ingram’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
