Obituary - Nelson Worsham
Nelson “Ollie” Worsham, 84, of Varina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Born November 20, 1941, Ollie lived a life marked by steady devotion, quiet pride, and a deep respect for the people and places that shaped him.
Ollie was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Nelson and Virginia Dabney Worsham, his beloved dog, Cookie; and great friends, Lorraine Bergeron, Maynard and Pearl Daniel. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Sandra “Sandy” Worsham, married on December 5, 1964. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to dear friends and neighbors, Carol O’Leary and Mark Mayer, for their dedication, love, and support over the years.
As a young boy, Ollie lived on Church Hill, where he delivered groceries to older neighbors in a wagon—an early sign of the dependable, service-minded spirit that stayed with him throughout his life. After moving to the Fan area, he continued delivering groceries for neighbors and eventually picked up several newspaper routes in the Fan, then moving to Fulton Hill in the Eastern part of Richmond, approaching each day’s work with consistency and care.
At 18 years old, Ollie entered the printing industry, beginning a remarkable career defined by loyalty and craftsmanship. He was privileged to land a job with Benj. Franklin Printing Co., where he worked for 58 years, serving under three generations of the Overbey family who still own the business. He was loved and supported by his employer. He worked on the press for 45 years, then transitioned into delivery for 13 years. Ollie took genuine pride in wearing the Benj. Franklin uniform and representing such a distinguished company—often saying that two of his greatest accomplishments were working at Benj. Franklin Printing Co. and marrying his wife, Sandy.
Outside of work, Ollie found joy in simple pleasures and well-earned time away. He enjoyed yard sales and estate sales, going to the beach, vacations and holidays spent at the Outer Banks, and traveling—pursuits that reflected his appreciation for discovery, tradition, and the comfort of familiar places shared with those he loved.
Ollie and Sandy also shared a cherished routine: they ate regularly at Joe’s Inn on Shields Ave. from the time they first started dating. Sandy would like to thank the owners, Matt and Tina, along with all of the staff, for their love and support, and she is deeply grateful for all they have done for them over the years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the Alzheimer's Association or to American Cancer Society.
