Joseph Edward Christian III, known fondly as Ed, laid down his working tools and went to meet the Lord in the house not made with his hands, but eternal in Heaven on April 24, 2025. Born on November 2, 1950 in Richmond, Va., Ed passed peacefully at home with his beloved wife by his side after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Ed's life made the world a better place. His kindness, generosity and selflessness were unmatched – he would literally give you the shirt off his back. Those who knew Ed as a husband, brother, son, uncle or friend were truly blessed.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Mary Copeland Christian and Joseph Edward Christian, Jr. Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Sherry Gasiorowski Christian; his sister, Barbara Christian Woodburn (Bob); brother-in-law, Stan Gasiorowski (Cary); nieces, Stephanie W Angle (Ben), Lindsey W. Brown (Chris); nephews, Michael Gasiorowski (Christy), Time Gasiorowski (Meg), and cherished great nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Hermitage High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, Ed was a proud member of Lambda Sigma Pi Fraternity. He served as president of Central Henrico Chapter of the Jaycees, chairman of the Saint Patrick's Day Committee, past Commodore of the Virginia Power Boat Association, and member of the Glen Allen Masonic Lodge.
A meticulous craftsman and builder, Ed devoted his life to construction, creating many beautiful homes and additions throughout his career, including several years working inside the Pentagon. He was a true gentleman, a man of unwavering integrity and the ultimate Boy Scout, always prepared for any situation.
Ed had a great sense of humor and a love of languages – especially after a couple of martinis! His presence filled the room with warmth and laughter. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication and joy.
He loved surf fishing in Hatteras, boating on the bay and relaxing at the river.
Ed will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing and loving him.
A memorial service will be held at Glen Allen Baptist Church, 3208 Mountain Road on May 16, 2025, at 2 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Ed's Life at Kitchen 33, 13155 Mountain Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059.
