Garry Bloomfield was born March 21, 1957, in Richmond, VA, to Walter & Doris Bloomfield. He was the second oldest of five children and the only boy. Garry received his primary and secondary education through Richmond Public Schools. Graduating from George Wythe High School in 1973.

Driven to seek more opportunities, he proudly enlisted in the army in 1976, eager to serve his country and build a better future. His military journey was cut tragically short by a devastating, career-ending diagnosis: sickle cell disease. Refusing to let adversity define him, he transitioned back to civilian life. In 1985, he welcomed his cherished son and namesake, Garry Fife, born from a shared relationship with Iris Fife. He took immense pride in being a father, and watching Garry grow into adulthood was one of the greatest joys of his life.

Garry chose to embrace a life rich in varied experiences, and opted not to take a conventional path. His diverse career experiences include serving as a Bus Driver with Richmond Public Schools, working as an operator with Famous Foods of Virginia (FFV), working with Carquest Auto Parts as a delivery driver, and with Henrico County Public Schools as a Bus Assistant. Every job was a stepping stone toward the ultimate goal: stability, a family, a home of his own, and a beautiful life with his wife.

Garry approached every season of life with enthusiasm and an open heart. Although Garry accepted Christ at an early age, it was later in life that he reignited his faith at The Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in the early 2000s, where he remained an active member until his earthly departure. His church gave him deep spiritual support and a loving community. It also gave him his greatest blessing. He met Ms. Gertis Strickland while riding in the church van. A spark ignited and eventually turned into a deep love. After a devoted courtship, they married on May 26, 2018, in Richmond, Virginia.

Garry Bloomfield entered into rest on August 31, 2026. Garry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter & Doris Bloomfield, in 1980 and 2008, respectively. He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Gertis Strickland-Bloomfield; his son Garry Fife (and wife Shanna Fife); his siblings: Gloria Jackson, Arlene Garnett(Allen), Darlene Bloomfield-Jiggetts(William), & Sandy Bloomfield. He also leaves behind his cherished granddaughter, Skylar Fife. As well as a host of family members, including many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
