Obituary - Jean Martin Wyndham
Jean Martin Wyndham, affectionately known as "Broomie," passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in Henrico, VA. Born on August 8, 1937, she leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and dedication to education.
Jean graduated from Westhampton College with a bachelor’s degree in History and Spanish and later earned her Master’s in Education from the University of Richmond. A lifelong fan of the Richmond Spiders, she carried her passion for learning into her career as an educator. Jean spent many years teaching in Henrico County Public Schools, serving as a remedial reading/math teacher at Trevvett Elementary and a beloved 5th-grade teacher at Montrose Elementary. She later continued working with children as an after-school teacher at Rainbow Station Child Development Center.
Broomie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, a talented crocheter, and loved spending time at "the rivah." She delighted in catalog shopping and cherished traveling with her family. Among her most treasured memories were trips to the Panama Canal, Alaska, and Nova Scotia with her children and their spouses.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Herbert Hertelle Wyndham; her parents, William Conn Martin, Sr. and Mildred Carleton Martin; and her brother, William Conn Martin, Jr. She is survived by her devoted children, Christopher Martin Wyndham (Courtney) and Cynthia Anne McKay (Dennis); seven cherished grandchildren: Beamer (Allisa), Reid (Chloe), Jack, Mikey, Morgan, Carter, and Madison; two great-grandchildren, Colton and Declan Wyndham; and dear friends Joe and Edi Phillips.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, July 1, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Henrico, VA. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 2, at 11:00 a.m., also at Affinity Funeral Service. Interment will be private.
