Ann Parrish, 91, of Henrico VA, passed away on Friday, April 10th. She is survived by daughter, Lynn Edris (Greg), son, Robbie Parrish (Heather) and daughter, Mernie Kwarta. Ann has six grandchildren, Lily Edris, Robbie Parrish Jr. (Kelly), Spencer Parrish (Alex), Gracie Parrish, Brady Parrish and Kelly Kwarta. She also survived by three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Corona, Maryelle Corona and Isla Parrish.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Hooks Parrish and son Chris Parrish.

Ann was born in Washington DC, and lived her childhood there with her mother, sister and brother. Ann was the youngest child. Later her mother moved them to Richmond, VA and Ann grew up here in Richmond, VA attending John Marshall High School. She met Hooks Parrish at Virginia Beach one summer and the rest was history. They had four children and raised all of them at the house at 8514 Holly Hill Road behind Freeman High School.

Ann and Hooks had many wonderful friends and neighbors, the Mills, the Vance’s, the Overton’s, the Oliver’s, the Tinsley’s and many more that they enjoyed spending time with. The singing and laughter could be heard for miles. They also spent a lot of time at Tuckahoe Little League where both of Ann’s sons played baseball. Ann never missed a ball game or her daughter Lynn’s swim meets. Those times were special to the whole family and Ann had no problem telling the ump what was on her mind. One time, I think she threw a shoe.

Ann loved to garden and was always planting and tending to her flower bed. She was a member of the Richmond Garden Club for many years and served as their president for several of those years. She also loved to go to yard sales and accumulated quite a collection. We discovered that when we moved her. She was one tough cookie. She raised four children as a stay-at-home mom all on a bricklayer’s salary, but she made it look easy. She gave her kids Christmas’s that they will never forget. She always kept everything and everybody together. She made the best Sunday dinners after church, making Hooks especially happy. No one has ever cooked better fried chicken.

Ann did suffer some great sadness in her life with the early death of her father, the death of her husband of 52 years and her son Chris. She did the best she could dealing with such great losses. She lived her final ten years at Westminster Canterbury of Richmond. Thank you to all the people at WCR who took care of her throughout the years. She loved Meghan and Cary who always paid special attention to her needs even on days when she was “a little salty”. Thank you also to Laura and Katherine.

Thank you to the hospice staff at Westminster Canterbury for making her transition very peaceful and without any pain. You went above and beyond for her and our family.

Please join the family for a memorial gathering for Ann on Wednesday, April 22nd from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Affinity Funeral Home at 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294.

Memorials in her name may be made to Westminster Canterbury of Richmond’s benevolence fund.
