Agnes Dowdy-Kandle, 96, of Varina, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Herman B. Dowdy, Sr and second husband, Kenneth Vernon Kandle; her parents, Pearl Kahl Griggs and father, Frank Monroe Kahl; brothers, Edward and James Kahl and all 25 in-law brothers and sisters of her close Dowdy family generation.

She is survived by her children, Arleen Dowdy Allen (Joe), H. Bailey Dowdy, Jr (Esther), and Martha Dowdy Holdsworth (David), four grandchildren, Hunter Allen, Christy Allen Masry (Brett), Kim Holdsworth Underwood (Chad), and Stephen Dowdy; three great-grand children; Finn, Coy, and Callen Masry; and her dear sister Dorothy Vecchio.

In her long lifetime, she enjoyed working years ago in the Miller & Rhoads Tea Room and being a hairdresser in her home for decades. She loved her friends, being on a ladies morning bowling league, gardening and canning vegetables, making flower arrangements, working in her flowerbeds, traveling, sewing and crocheting. Many weekends were spent at her Gwynn's Island house with the family picking crabs and sitting on the porch watching the boats go by. She was a member at Hardy Central Baptist Church for over 80 years. Her church was very important to her where she attended regularly until becoming homebound. She was also a member of Montross Chapter No. 17 Order of the Eastern Star until her death. She loved all the cards, phone calls & visits over the years which the family appreciated dearly. A big thank you to the staff at Covenant Woods who took care of her.

Viewing will be at Hardy Central Baptist Church, 4655 Darbytown Road, Henrico, 23231 on Monday, May 12th, 6-8pm.

A celebration of life service will be Tuesday, May 13th at 2pm at Hardy Central Baptist Church, followed by graveside service at Washington Memorial Cemetery.
