Growing up in Staunton, she attended Robert E. Lee High School and later completed coursework to receive her GED. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church where she served on the Alter Guild and as a Sunday School Teacher.
She moved to Richmond with her husband Harvey in 1986 and they co-established Kingsland Reach Marina on the James River in Eastern Henrico County. She became a member of Varina Episcopal Church. She was a receptionist in medical offices and other businesses in both Staunton and Richmond. Elsie became a devoted reader and would check out novels and bibliographies from Varina Public Library every two weeks for many years. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and creating art by crafting, sewing and furnishing her doll house with miniatures. She was also an avid animal lover having cared for many cats and dogs in her lifetime.
Elsie loved her family and was a friend to all. No matter where she resided, all were welcome around her table and were treated like family in her home. That hospitality included wonderful meals made from scratch. She loved to cook and host and offered many of her specialty dishes, needing only taste and texture as her guidance. She will be missed by many.
