Shenandoah University junior Caden Sherman of Glen Allen was one of two members of the school’s men’s golf team named to the 2025-26 NCAA Division III Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars list by the Golf Coaches Association of America. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.


The following local students recently graduated from University of Maryland Global Campus: Jenell Crews, Jace Darling, Mariem Gayed, Arica Hawthorne, Tony Henley, Shaqualla Johnson, Jamal Jones, Erik Matlack and Ricardo Pinzon, of Henrico; and La’Ron Pryor and Aaron Rochkind, of Glen Allen.

Jalen Pierce of Glen Allen was among the students recognized for outstanding athletic achievement during Wilson College's annual Athletic Awards Ceremony earlier this year. Pierce received The Bill Kalbaugh Award for Academic Excellence, given to the men’s basketball player with the highest grade point average, and The Lori A. Frey Award, given to student-athletes whose extraordinary commitment and dedication serves as an inspiration to teammates, coaches, and fellow student-athletes across campus.

Faribah Nuha of Glen Allen has been recognized among the nation's top youth volunteers for service to veterans, earning a $20,000 scholarship from Disabled American Veterans. She was one of 15 recipients selected nationwide through the 2026 DAV Scholarships program. The scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional volunteer service to veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Program or DAV's Local Veterans Assistance Program.
