Henrico Schools has opened nominations for the 2026-27 REB Awards for Distinguished Educational Leadership, which honor outstanding principals. Nominations are due Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. Honorees receive $20,000 for school initiatives and a $10,000 unrestricted grant; a runner-up may receive $10,000 for school projects.

School counselor Dina Thibodeau of Pemberton Elementary School was recognized Sept. 23 as the first of 100 “Yay of the Day” honorees planned for the 2026-27 school year. Jermaine “J.J.” James, a lead custodian at Hungary Creek Middle School, was recognized Sept. 24 and Ariel Salerno, a chemistry teacher at Douglas S. Freeman High School, was recognized Sept. 25.

Superintendent Amy Cashwell apologized this week for ongoing air conditioning problems in district buildings and said HCPS has a $92 million backlog in mechanical repairs. The division is adding five technicians and outside vendors as it works to accelerate repairs.
