Henrico adopts PFAS discharge-monitoring rules

Henrico County has adopted new industrial-wastewater rules involving per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, often known as "forever chemicals" because they don't break down over time.

The Henrico Board of Supervisors approved the ordinance Sept. 8, updating maximum discharge limits to align with state permitting requirements and federal standards for PFAS discharge monitoring.

Henrico's action concerns industrial wastewater discharged into the county's wastewater system. Federal PFAS limits already exist for finished drinking water.
