The Richmond Kickers have named Glen Allen native Brian Ownby their ninth head coach, removing the interim designation he had held since June 15.

Ownby is a former Deep Run High School standout who helped the school win a state championship before playing at the University of Virginia. In 72 college appearances, he scored 21 goals and contributed 10 assists. He also represented the United States at youth international level, including the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, where he scored against Cameroon.

He previously played professionally for Houston Dynamo, the Kickers and Louisville City FC, among other teams. Ownby retired from professional soccer after the 2025 season, having helped Louisville City win two USL Championship titles.

“We are excited to appoint Brian as our Head Coach,” Kickers Chairman and CEO Rob Ukrop said. “His growth over the last several months leading our team in an interim role and commitment to his hometown club convinced us that he is the right person to lead us into the new landscape of the USL. We admire Brian’s ability to identify talent, to connect with this younger generation of players, while holding them to a high standard that will deliver results to the RVA community both on and off the field.”
