FETCH a Cure, IDEXX plan November events supporting pets with cancer

Local pet owners will have two opportunities in Richmond this November, Pet Cancer Awareness Month, to support families facing pet cancer and learn more about earlier detection.

Henrico-based FETCH a Cure and IDEXX will present the nonprofit’s annual Pets on Parade benefit and auction from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Main Street Station. This year’s theme, The Royal Pet, celebrates the idea that every pet deserves royal treatment. The event will include live and silent auctions, raffles and food from Richmond restaurants. Well-behaved, leashed dogs may attend.

The organizations also will host the Catch Canine Cancer Early 100K Catch Challenge from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Byrd Park Carillon Grounds. Dogs and their families will have the chance take part in Richmond's largest game of catch, designed to prompt conversations about canine cancer and screening.

Proceeds from Pets on Parade support FETCH a Cure’s mission of providing awareness, education and treatment of pet cancer. It funds programs such as the Companions in Crisis fund and Pixie’s Pen Pals.
