Layne’s Chicken Fingers is planning to open its second Richmond-area restaurant in Henrico County Sept. 15. The Texas-based chicken finger chain's new location will be at 8801 Staples Mill Road, joining an existing location in Ashland. Henrico business owner Khurram Burney, who helped bring the Layne’s brand to Virginia, will operate the new restaurant. He also operates the Ashland location and has plans to open more locations in the state. Layne’s specializes in chicken fingers and offers meals that include fries, Texas toast and the company's signature sauce. Its menu also includes chicken-finger sandwiches.
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar opened earlier this month at 11331 West Broad Street in Short Pump, Axios Richmond recently reported. That space previously was home to Persis Indian Grill. The California-based chain delivers more than 100 dishes—including traditional sushi rolls, noodle, ramen and nigiri—via a conveyor belt that winds through the restaurant. A slot at each table accepts empty plates, where they’re counted toward the final bill; return 15 and receive a prize. Hours of operation are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Nordstrom is planning to bring its discounted retail brand Nordstrom Rack to the Westpark Shopping Center next fall, Richmond BizSense recently reported. The 30,000-square-foot space at 9819 West Broad Street was formerly occupied by Painted Tree Boutiques. Nordstrom previously operated a department store at Short Pump Town Center; it closed in 2020.

Wizard Bins & Auctions opened Sept. 6 at 6031 Nine Mile Road in the Newbridge Square Shopping Center. The company sells overstocked items and online returns sourced from retailers like Walmart, Target and Amazon. Items are restocked weekly and start at $10 on Sundays. Prices are discounted throughout the week until they hit $.25 on Saturday before inventory is refreshed again. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Wizard also operates online auctions at wiz.bid. New items are released weekly with prices starting at $1.
Ollie’s opened Sept. 9 at 50 South Airport Drive in Highland Springs in a space formerly occupied by Shoppers Value Foods. The retailer sells closeout and excess inventory of books, food, toys, electronics, home goods, clothing, furniture, hardware, and more. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Green City Partners, the former development group behind the proposed GreenCity project in Henrico, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection Sept. 9. The filing lists more than $825,000 in known liabilities owed to 16 creditors and less than $50,000 in assets. The filing comes about a year after the development group relinquished the GreenCity property to Henrico County.
Glen Allen-based Markel Group has reorganized its senior leadership team. Chief Executive Officer Tom Gayner has been named chairman, succeeding Steve Markel, who plans to retire as chairman and not seek reelection to the company's board at its 2027 annual meeting. Simon Wilson and Andrew Crowley also have been promoted to co-presidents of Markel Group. Wilson will continue to serve as CEO of Markel Insurance, while Crowley will serve as CEO of Markel Ventures. The company also created a Leadership Council consisting of its lead independent director, chairman and CEO, and co-presidents. The changes took effect Sept. 8.
Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer has promoted Ryan Murchison to director of human resources operations. Murchison joined the Henrico-based commercial real estate firm in 2015 as human resources manager, was promoted to senior human resources manager in 2021 and became associate director of human resources in 2025. In her new position, she will focus on technology, human-resources processes and workflow efficiencies. Murchison is a 2010 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University.
Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer also has hired Emily Harrison as a talent acquisition specialist on its human resources team. Harrison previously spent four years with Apex Systems, where she handled full-cycle recruiting for technical and corporate positions. At Thalhimer, she will work with hiring managers on recruiting and hiring employees throughout the company. Thalhimer employs about 545 people and has nearly 100 brokers in offices throughout Virginia.
FirstService Residential has been selected to provide full-service property management for the Villas at Hunton Park Condominium Unit Owners Association in Glen Allen. The company announced the new contract Sept. 9. The Villas at Hunton Park community includes a swimming pool, fitness center and clubhouse. FirstService Residential said its team is working with the association's board on operational priorities and resident services.
