MARCH 29

Popeye’s, 8044 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: wire racks in walk-in cooler are rusty; observed flour and food debris buildup on surfaces of biscuit oven, walk-in cooler wire racks and fan grates, reach-in cooler interior and bread rack; observed heavy buildup of grease and water pooling under fryers; floor behind ice machine is grimy; floor tiles are missing under fryers closest to hand sink; paint is chipping on walls in back dish/mop area.

APRIL 1

Papa John’s Pizza, 9038 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: there is 0 ppm sanitizer in three-compartment sink; temperature of cheese sticks is elevated because they were left out on the counter.

Noodles & Friends, 9035 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility couldn’t provide written procedures for cleaning up vomit/diarrhea; wooden spoon found in hand sink at entrance; knife sharpener block found in hand sink near three-compartment sink; reach-in cooler exteriors below prep table are dirty with buildup; ceiling panels and walk-in freezer floor are dirty.

Zen Café, 9041 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: long cutting board under boba and cereal containers has deep brown scratches; observed severe dust buildup on fan in storage room; faucet at three-compartment sink is leaking; ceiling panels in storage room are not smooth and easily cleanable; observed chipping paint and dents on walls in mop room; mop isn’t being hung to air dry.

PITSA, 11321-B Nuckols Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility doesn’t have written procedures for cleaning up vomit/diarrhea; both hand sinks are blocked by a chair and a large trash can; multiple cans of pizza sauce are dented; package of raw lamb stored next to ready-to-eat foods in reach-in; observed pink buildup/slime inside ice machine; pan and fryer baskets not in use today are filled with food debris; no date marks found on cream cheese, curry sauce and opened wings; several foods have a manufacturers’ date of 2023 (cottage cheese, salsa, hummus and garlic in oil); cottage cheese and hummus appear discolored; lotion and personal additives labeled “kidney detox” and “liver detox” are stored on shelves among food items; bottle of cleaner and air freshener stored on shelf with food; observed a vacuum packaging machine that person in charge states is used for various foods that are packaged here and then shipped frozen to other locations (facility doesn’t have approval for this); multiple boxes of food stored directly on walk-in floor; mop sink faucet doesn’t have a dual check valve installed; observed litter around the dumpster; floor drain under three-compartment sink is heavily soiled; wet mops are not being hung to air dry.

APRIL 2

Maple Street Biscuit Company, 11657 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: temperature of fried potatoes in metal bin on grill is too low; temperatures of whipped cream on counter and sliced tomatoes and sliced cheese on line are elevated; single-service containers are stored on a dirty counter; cutting board at breading station and at the line have brown scratches; fryer baskets have bent metal; one light is out at left grill hood and two lights are out at right grill hood; observed food and grime buildup in fryer cabinet and on racks in dry storage area; ceiling fans are dusty; walk-in cooler floor is dirty.

APRIL 3

Pizza Hut, 11385 Nuckols Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: observed grease and food debris on racks in dough prep area and dish rack for clean dishes; there is a leak at faucet at hand sink in dish area; floor drain under three-compartment sink and wall behind dish machine are soiled.

Subway, 11347 Nuckols Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: temperatures of turkey, chicken strips and ham in small back-up refrigerator are elevated; temperatures of veggie patties, lettuce and tomatoes in sandwich unit are elevated (person in charge states that when microwave is used, it trips the circuit and employees unknowingly did that this morning); observed mouse droppings in back storage area.

Pho 79, 6909 Staples Mill Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: observed dried food debris on slicer; trash found on clean pans on rack; interior of ice machine has mildew buildup; temperatures of raw beef and brisket in prep unit and sprouts on counter are elevated; prepared meats and pho broth are not date marked; large chunks of meat are stacked in a container during the cooling process; raw beef and rice noodles are being thawed at room temperature; bulk containers of salt, sugar and MSG and spices on the cook line are unlabeled; rice scoop is stored in ambient temperature standing water; to-go boxes are stored unprotected on a dirty prep shelf; bags of to-go containers are stored directly on storage room floor; single cutting boards are heavily scratched and stained; shelf liner on cook line is broken; wire racks in walk-in cooler are heavily rusted; several broken plastic containers and lids are being used; observed buildup of food debris and grime on surfaces of wire storage racks, portable fans, walk-in cooler air curtains, water heater, toaster oven and prep unit gaskets, inside prep units, and on walls and floors throughout kitchen and back storage rooms; observed buildup of grease and food debris on stoves and grill; a dual check valve needs to be installed on spray hose in dish machine area; there is low grout on floors throughout the kitchen; tile coving in walk-in cooler is broken; broken equipment and unused items need to be removed from back storage rooms.

Moe’s Southwest Grill, 10839 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: wall slicer has dried food debris; temperatures of cheese and lettuce in ice bath are elevated; temperature of salsa cups in prep unit are elevated; employee is handling food without proper hair restraint for beard; surfaces of soda rack in back prep hallway are not smooth, easily cleanable and nonabsordable; metal wires are breaking on fryer baskets; observed food debris on wire racks; fan grate in walk-in cooler is dusty.

Popeye’s, 2318 East Laburnum Avenue – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: back hand sink doesn’t have paper towels; observed dried food debris inside both microwaves; a fried chicken breast wasn’t cooked to the proper temperature; wire racks in walk-in cooler are dirty/moldy; observed grease buildup on sides of deep fryers; ceiling tiles throughout kitchen are stained; observed heavy grease buildup on floor under deep fryers.

APRIL 4

Starbucks Coffee Company, 12241 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility couldn’t locate the food manager certificate; facility doesn’t have an irreversible temperature registering device for the high temp dish machine; observed spills and food debris in back reach-in unit (on racks and in bottom of unit) and unit under espresso machine nearest the register; trash found on floor under dry storage racks; trash and food debris found under equipment near drive-thru area; there are splatters on wall and ceiling in dish area.

Corner Bakery, 11000 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: temperatures of chicken paninis and items in the walk-in (pasta, tomatoes, chicken and peppers) are elevated; observed items being placed in prep tops without cooling properly first (roasted peppers, garlic butter and pancake mix); observed torn gaskets on units; there is ice buildup in the freezer; low grouting found along cook line; there is a hole behind dish machine; ceiling tiles near panini press are stained.

Sakura Japanese Restaurant, 9008 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: a food employee didn’t use soap to wash his hands; an employee handled raw meat and didn’t change gloves or wash hands before touching other surfaces; observed dried food debris on several knives that are supposed to be clean; there is heavy staining inside tea pitchers; ice scoop is moldy; there is brown buildup inside ice machine; scoops in sugar and flour bulk bins are dirty; an employee failed to sanitize a knife after washing; temperature of tofu on prep counter is elevated; a spray can of foam filler is stored next to drink powders in server station; improper cooling methods observed for rice in deep container in walk-in cooler; fish is thawing in reduced oxygen packaging at sushi bar; several bottles of vinegar and oil at the grill are unlabeled; menu doesn’t accurately reflect the food items being served (menu lists crab but imitation crab is being used and escolar is listed as albacore); several boxes of food are stored directly on walk-in freezer floor; rice scoop stored in ambient temperature standing water; to-go containers are stored unprotected on a dirty surface above prep line; single-service items are being reused for the storage of food; metal wires are breaking on fryer baskets; water is draining from prep unit onto the floor; blue dish racks are in disrepair; wire racks throughout the kitchen are rusty; reach-in cooler has a torn gasket; prep and single cutting boards are heavily scratched and stained; observed buildup of limescale and grime inside dish machine; observed buildup of grease and food debris on surfaces of grill, fryers, stove, pipes and wheels of cooking equipment, wire racks in walk-in cooler, suppression nozzles and receipt printers; there is a leak at hand sink in back prep area; ceiling panels are heavily stained; observed food debris and grime on floors throughout kitchen; tile coving in employee restroom is damaged; grease trap lid is rusted and lifting off the floor.
