U.S. Congressmen Rob Wittman (R-VA-01) and Ted Lieu (D-CA-36) have relaunched the bipartisan Congressional Toy Caucus, designed to highlight the U.S. toy industry’s role as a driver of economic growth, innovation, and job creation nationwide.
The caucus will address issues impacting the industry, including online protections for children, supply chain resilience, and the fight against illegal and counterfeit toys, according to the representatives. It also will champion sustainability initiatives that strengthen long-term economic and environmental viability.
“America’s toy industry plays a vital role in our economy, supporting countless jobs and strengthening communities nationwide,” said Wittman. “I’m proud that Virginia’s First District is home to a major LEGO Group packaging site that is being expanded thanks to a $1 billion investment from LEGO, creating over 1,700 jobs over 10 years. I remain committed to advocating for product safety and equitable trade practices.”
“The American toy industry plays an important role in the education and development of children all across this country,” said Lieu. “My congressional district is home to Mattel—the makers of countless toys, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Fisher-Price. Toys are essential for our children to safely learn and grow. I’m pleased to co-chair the congressional Toy Caucus to ensure product safety, strengthen American businesses, and promote our children’s development.”
The U.S. toy industry has an annual economic impact of more than $100 billion, according to Wittman and Lieu, and supports more than half a million jobs and generates tens of billions of dollars in wages for Americans.
“We are grateful to Representatives Wittman and Lieu for their leadership in co-chairing the bipartisan Congressional Toy Caucus and revitalizing it as a vital forum for the U.S. toy industry,” said Greg Ahearn, president and CEO of The Toy Association. “Their commitment will help elevate the critical role the toy industry plays in the healthy development of American children.”
