Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers will present Everybody Loves Pirates at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Henrico Theatre, 305 East Nine Mile Road in Highland Springs. Lucy and Little Chucky are searching for buried treasure, but a gang of bumbling pirates cause trouble. The kids get help from their new ocean-dwelling friends: Lobster Boy, his sidekick Crabby, and an overgrown sea monkey. The approximately 52-minute show features 15 hand-crafted mouth and rod puppets and an eight-foot paper mache pirate ship. Recommended for ages four and up. Admission is free. Click here for details.
Woofstock, Richmond Animal League’s annual family- and dog-friendly outdoor festival, returns to 4951 Lake Brook Drive in Glen Allen (near the Innsbrook Pavilion) on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities will include a pet costume contest and pup cup eating contest, an agility course, a pet parade, pet adoptions, live music, vendors and food trucks. Reynolds Community College and Henrico Recreation & Parks will host Hawk Fest on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the college's Parham Road Campus (1651 East Parham Road). The family-friendly festival will include live music, food trucks, inflatable amusements and games, face painting and balloon art. A “Truck and Learn” Discovery Area will give visitors an opportunity to explore community vehicles, and Reynolds faculty and staff members will offer interactive displays highlighting college programs. Mountainfilm, an annual celebration in Telluride, Colorado, celebrates cultures unique to mountain communities with an international gathering of legendary mountaineers, environmentalists, filmmakers, authors, scientists and artists. Mountainfilm on Tour will be at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Road, on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will begin with two hours of vendors and activities such as skateboarding, skimboarding, archery, paddling and disc golf. Good Shot Judy will perform Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Road. This high-octane band mixes classic swing with modern energy. The performance will take place on CACGA's outdoor Center Field stage. General admission seating; bring a chair or blanket. Beer, wine and snacks will be available for purchase.
