VDOT releases updated state transportation map

The Virginia Department of Transportation has released an updated Official State Transportation Map and is offering free printed copies.

Travelers may order the map online through VDOT, pick one up at Virginia welcome centers and safety rest areas, or request one from the Virginia Tourism Corporation. A printed map can serve as a backup when cell service is limited or a phone battery dies, according to VDOT.

The agency also is reminding fall travelers to avoid stopping along roadways for foliage photographs, watch for deer and other wildlife, slow down on wet leaves, and check vehicle lights and tires before traveling.
