Try Transit Week underway across Virginia
The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation is observing Try Transit Week through Friday, Sept. 18, encouraging Virginians who do not regularly use public transportation to explore bus, rail and other transit options available in their communities.
Virginia has 41 transit agencies, including GRTC, which provides bus service in Henrico County and the Richmond region. The annual campaign also is intended to encourage existing riders to make greater use of transit services.
During Try Transit Week, people across Virginia who record their public transit trips in the ConnectingVA app will have the opportunity to win prizes, including Amtrak and Virginia Breeze Bus Lines tickets.
“Public transportation expands access to jobs, education and essential services while strengthening connections between communities across Virginia,” said DRPT Director Maria Zimmerman. “Try Transit Week is an opportunity to experience those connections firsthand and discover how transit can provide an affordable choice in how Virginians travel.”
