This Day in Henrico History: Oct. 8 – Henrico dedicates expanded Fire Station No. 8
On Oct. 8, 2011, Henrico County dedicated a newly renovated and expanded Fire Station No. 8 at 8000 Patterson Avenue.
The project more than doubled the size of the station that had occupied the site since 1950. The new 8,234-square-foot facility included a two-bay, drive-through garage and housed an engine company and an attack pumper, giving firefighters a larger and more modern base for serving the surrounding area.
Fire Station No. 8 is part of a county fire-rescue system that has evolved substantially since the era of smaller neighborhood stations. Rebuilding and expanding stations has allowed Henrico to accommodate larger apparatus, modern safety requirements and changing staffing needs while keeping stations positioned within the communities they serve.
The Oct. 8 dedication marked the formal return of the Patterson Avenue station to service after the renovation and expansion.
