Section of Dumbarton Road closed after crash on I-95 damages bridge

A section of Dumbarton Road will be closed "for an extended period of time" following a crash on I-95 that damaged the bridge carrying Dumbarton over the interstate, according to Henrico Police.

Westbound lanes of Dumbarton are closed between Lakeside Avenue and Brook Road (Route 1) in both directions while Virginia State Police investigate the crash and the Virginia Department of Transportation inspects the bridge to determine whether it is safe for travel or if repairs are needed first.

Motorists are being advised to use Westbrook Avenue or Hilliard Road as alternative routes through the area.

Eastbound lanes, which were closed initially, have been reopened as of 3:30 p.m., according to police.
