Richmond International Airport Chief Operating Officer John B. Rutledge recently was named Airport Executive of the Year as part of the 2026 Virginia Aviation Awards.

Rutledge received the honor Aug. 19 during the Virginia Department of Aviation's annual awards ceremony at the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg.

Rutledge has been a member of RIC's leadership team for two decades, initially serving as director of planning and engineering before becoming chief operating officer. He oversees the airport's day-to-day operations, planning, capital development and public safety functions.

"John Rutledge is the quiet force helping Richmond International Airport prioritize modernization and expansion to provide a world-class passenger experience," RIC President and CEO Perry J. Miller said.

Rutledge's engineering and financial background has helped guide RIC through significant growth and expansion, airport officials said.

Other honorees included Del. Karrie Delaney, who was named Person of the Year; Forest Middle School's Cindy Watson (Educator of the Year); and Mike Mickel of Chesterfield County and Michael Cooper of Loudoun County, who received Lifetime Achievement Awards.
