Restaurant Watch: Aug. 28-Sept. 4, 2026

Civita Italia, 3401 Haydenpark Lane - During a routine inspection on Aug. 28, inspectors observed an employee touch ready-to-eat octopus with bare hands; numerous dented cans in dry storage; no parasite destruction documentation for salmon that may be served undercooked; raw chicken stored next to raw veal and raw salmon, raw shrimp stored next to cooked shrimp and, in another unit, raw shrimp stored next to basil and sauce; black residue inside the ice machine; no sanitizer detected at the dish machine; marinara sauce prepared the previous day at 60 degrees in a deep, covered container in the walk-in cooler and Bolognese sauce prepared two days earlier at 46 degrees; mushroom cream sauce at 127 to 134 degrees; octopus at 43 to 66 degrees, pickled onions and beans at 43 degrees, raw salmon at 47 degrees, raw chicken stacked high at 59 degrees, cooked shrimp at 46 degrees, shredded cheese at 45 degrees, mushrooms at 44 to 49 degrees and pasta salad on ice at 41 to 49 degrees; menu items containing raw or undercooked animal foods, including salmon, carpaccio and aiolis made with raw shell eggs, without proper disclosure; salmon belly vacuum packaged in-house without a HACCP plan, including several packages of raw salmon in the walk-in freezer; cannellini beans prepared that day at 132 to 135 degrees and 101 degrees in two covered containers in the walk-in cooler and mushrooms prepared that day at 83 degrees; no chlorine test strips for the dish machine; and water dripping from a pipe beneath the sanitizing basin of the three-compartment sink.
Pho So 1, 9135 West Broad Street - During a follow-up inspection on Aug. 28, inspectors found no food protection manager certificate; no handwashing sink in the dishwashing area; no date marks on thawed meats in a reach-in cooler; no time marks for sprouts, lettuce and cooked beef near the dish machine; several foods stored on the floor of the walk-in freezer; single-service plastic containers without handles being used as scoops in rice buckets; and torn gaskets on a prep cooler and a lowboy cabinet in front of the walk-in freezer.
Poseidon Boil, 9127 West Broad Street, Suite R - During a risk factor inspection on Aug. 28, inspectors observed a lack of active managerial control, with employees not being corrected for improper handwashing and food being stored unprotected and outside proper temperatures; two open employee drink cups stored above food and food-preparation surfaces; an employee bread raw fish, rinse gloved hands without soap and then plate ready-to-eat food; no soap at the hand sink next to the fryers; sausage at 100 degrees on a shelf in front of cooking pots; heavy cream at 70 degrees outside a prep cooler, boiled corn at 61 to 64 degrees and potatoes at 56 to 61 degrees in an empty steamer well after being removed from the walk-in cooler about an hour earlier, and unsifted breading stored at room temperature near the fryers; a chemical in an unlabeled spray bottle; and employee medications stored next to napkins, forks and drink syrups.
The Back Porch BBQ, 1126 Westbriar Drive - During a routine inspection on Aug. 28, inspectors observed pink residue buildup inside the ice machine; several flies in the outdoor cooking area and on fly traps; food debris buildup on racks in the walk-in cooler, hanging pot racks and prep table shelves; open dumpster doors; flooring beneath/beside the ice machine that was in disrepair and not sealed; and dust and grease buildup on ceiling vents and panels above the prep and holding area.
The Daily Kitchen & Bar, 12201 West Broad Street - During a follow-up inspection on Aug. 28, inspectors observed guacamole at 44 to 46 degrees, mascarpone cheese at 45 degrees, sliced cheese at 49 degrees and cheesecake at 44 degrees in the right side and drawers of a salad unit; and the right side and drawers of the salad unit were not maintaining food at 41 degrees or below despite replacement of the thermostat, fan motor and fan blade, with the right side about 20 degrees warmer than the left.
Red Salt, 12221 West Broad Street - During a follow-up inspection on Aug. 28, inspectors observed a make table refrigerator that was not holding food at 41 degrees or below (not currently in-use).
The Bep Tea House, 9125 West Broad Street, Suite M - During a routine inspection on Aug. 28, inspectors observed three children being allowed to run through the back of the kitchen; both hand sinks filled with dishes; visible clumps in breading used with raw chicken and stored at room temperature next to the fryer; no time mark for boba under time control; containers of food stored on the floor in the back kitchen; coffee stirrers and boba scoops stored in a cup of water at 77 degrees; no chlorine sanitizer test strips; no sanitizer on site; and no covered trash can in the bathroom.
Taco Bell, 11242 Patterson Avenue - During a risk factor inspection on Aug. 28, inspectors observed black residue and grime buildup on the drink dispenser and ice machine at the drive-thru.
KFC, 3800 Mechanicsville Turnpike - During a routine inspection on Sept. 1, inspectors observed dried food debris inside a microwave; rusty wire storage racks throughout the kitchen and in the walk-in coolers and freezer; dirty or moldy door gaskets on a reach-in freezer, walk-in coolers and walk-in freezer; food debris on the bottom shelf of the reach-in freezer, grease residue on the sides of hot line cooking equipment, dirty walk-in cooler and freezer doors and handles, dusty walk-in cooler fan guards, heavy grease and food buildup inside a chicken warmer, dried food debris on walk-in cooler wire racks, flour and grease buildup on a wire rack next to the deep fryers, dusty point-of-sale monitors and cords and grease residue on a hanging fry basket rack; open outdoor dumpster doors and a damaged dumpster lid; damaged floor coving in the dry storage room and beneath the drive-thru soda machine; food debris and stains on kitchen walls; grease, flour and dust on walls, pipes and hoses behind hot line equipment; greasy floors beneath and behind hot line equipment; dusty ceiling tiles near ventilation, dirty floor drains, black grime on kitchen floors, and dirty or moldy walls and pipes in the walk-in coolers.
Beirut Bites Restaurant, 12391 Gayton Road - During a risk factor inspection on Sept. 1, inspectors observed several prepared foods in coolers without date marks, including cooked meats, vegetables, hummus and rice pudding.
Residence Inn Richmond NW, 3940 Westerre Parkway - During a routine inspection on Sept. 1, inspectors found no food protection manager certificate; observed apples in a self-service area without a sneeze guard; found no quaternary sanitizer test strips; found no irreversible registering temperature indicator for the dish machine; and observed a leak at the prep sink.
Twin Hickory Elementary School, 4900 Twin Hickory Lake Drive - During a routine inspection on Sept. 1, inspectors reported no violations.
Chung Hing Chinese Restaurant, 3053 Lauderdale Drive - During a follow-up inspection on Sept. 2, inspectors observed diced pork at 50 degrees in a kitchen prep unit; and the prep unit at an ambient temperature of 52 degrees, preventing TCS foods from being maintained at 41 degrees or below.
Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, 11800 West Broad Street, #1068 - During a routine inspection on Sept. 2, inspectors observed both bar soda nozzles encrusted with debris; no sanitizer being dispensed from the kitchen dishwasher; two medium-sized German cockroaches beneath cooking equipment in the back of the kitchen and too many small flies to count around the mop sink; scored and stained cutting boards on the prep line; no test strips to measure the chlorine sanitizer concentration from the kitchen dishwasher; and several missing floor tiles in the warewashing area causing standing water to accumulate.
Country Club of Virginia Clubhouse, 709 South Gaskins Road - During a risk factor inspection on Sept. 2, inspectors observed oysters and buttermilk in an ice bath at 41 to 56 degrees, feta at 58 degrees, caramelized onions at 67 degrees and hummus at 51 degrees in a prep cooler on the cookline; visible clumps in breading for meats stored on the counter next to the fryers; and in the snack bar, a chicken sandwich prepared the previous day at 45 degrees in a display case.
Dunkin', 4091 Concord Creek Place - During a routine inspection on Sept. 3, inspectors found no paper towels at two of the three kitchen hand sinks; quaternary sanitizer at less than 150 ppm; a kitchen thermometer that was not working; a working container of sugar without an identifying label; manufacturer's tape remaining on both sides of the walk-in freezer door; dried food/beverage debris and mold on wire storage racks in the walk-in cooler; and a hose connected to the mop sink faucet lying directly on the mop sink floor without an air gap between the water-supply inlet and flood-level rim.
Farm and Oak, 3601 Cox Road, Suite A - During a risk factor inspection on Sept. 3, inspectors observed an employee touch ready-to-eat bread with bare hands before assembling a sandwich; no parasite destruction letter for salmon; macaroni and cheese reheated to only 105 to 125 degrees in an oven before being placed in a warmer; coleslaw at 55 degrees, shredded cheese at 58 to 59 degrees and blue cheese at 51 degrees in an open top prep cooler near the dish machine; and a container of coleslaw dated Aug. 26 remaining in the walk-in cooler.
Roseshire Gaming Parlor, 4016 Glenside Drive - During a routine inspection on Sept. 3, inspectors observed Alfredo sauce at 77 degrees, spinach dip at 79 degrees and vodka sauce at 98 degrees about one hour and 45 minutes after being placed in a hot bar; pulled pork at 99 degrees and chicken at 96 degrees in a hot bar with no water in the pan; and two containers of house-pickled onions dated Aug. 14 and Aug. 21.
Captain D's Seafood, 7607 Staples Mill Road - During a routine inspection on Sept. 3, inspectors observed broken or missing tiles, coving and door and wall trim throughout the kitchen; and dried food debris on a wall near the prep station.
Leonardo's Pizza & Pasta, 10883 West Broad Street - During a routine inspection on Sept. 3, inspectors found no verifiable employee health policy; observed an employee scratch his face with a gloved hand and continue working on the prep line; black buildup on the bar soda nozzle; pizza sauce stored at room temperature on the pizza prep counter; an unlabeled spray bottle containing a light blue chemical; an unlabeled bulk bin containing a white, powdery ingredient in dry storage; an employee working on the prep line with long chin hair and no beard guard; dark buildup on a prep unit shelf holding takeout containers; torn gaskets on a prep unit across from the fryer, the pizza dough lowboy unit, a walk-in cooler and a reach-in freezer; rusty wire racks in both walk-in coolers and rusty drying racks above the dishwasher; dust on a vent in the walk-in produce cooler and food debris buildup on an ingredient rack; and heavy dust buildup on the vent above the dishwasher.
Sippa, 1415 Eastridge Road - During a routine inspection on Sept. 4, inspectors observed stir rods stored in standing water at 84 degrees.
Canastas Chicken, 5233-35 South Laburnum Avenue - During a follow-up inspection on Sept. 4, inspectors observed an open drink on a cutting board of a prep table and multiple employees eating in the kitchen; no paper towels at the front hand sink by the to-go area; and no soap at the hand sink by the rotisserie.
Silver Diner, 10890 West Broad Street - During a risk factor inspection on Sept. 4, inspectors observed an employee end a cell phone call and begin putting away clean dishes without washing hands, recontaminating the clean dishes; no soap at the hand sink at the front counter across from the ice cream freezer; raw fish fillets stored above ready-to-eat pickle slices in a prep unit next to the fryer; and portioned pasta at 43 degrees, meatloaf slices at 45 degrees and shredded cheese at 48 degrees in a prep unit next to the vegetable grill, with the unit's ambient temperature at 43 degrees.
