Community members are invited to participate in Community Cleanup Day at Westhampton Lake on the University of Richmond campus on Friday, April 17, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants will gather at the gazebo before spreading out around the lake to remove fishing lines, litter, and other debris that can harm wildlife and detract from the area's natural beauty. Volunteers will help ensure the lake remains a safe and welcoming environment for both animals and the community.

“Westhampton Lake is a cherished space for our campus and neighbors alike, and protecting it is a shared responsibility,” said Rob Andrejewski, UR's director of sustainability. “Small actions can have a big impact. We’re excited to bring people together for a hands-on opportunity to care for this important natural resource.”

The lake also is an important academic space on campus. Several UR classes use Westhampton Lake as an outdoor laboratory. Field research provides students with experiential learning that reinforces knowledge acquired in the classroom.

Everyone is welcome to participate, and no prior experience is necessary. Supplies will be provided, though volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring reusable gloves if they have them.
