Police investigating after man shot and killed in Eastern Henrico

A man is dead after apparently being shot in Eastern Henrico during the early morning hours of Jan. 8.
Henrico Police found the man lying in the roadway in the 1400 block of Oakland Road in Varina just before 5 a.m., suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Detectives with the division's Criminal Investigations Section are in the early stages of a homicide investigation and said they would release the victim's identity once his next-of-kin had been notified.
Oakland Road was closed between Old Oakland Road and Bentbrook Drive but was expected to be reopened by mid-morning Thursday.
