Obituary - Shirley Foster Small
Shirley Foster Small, 81, of Varina, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William B. Foster, Sr. and Margaret Lucille Foster; siblings, James Ernest Foster and Barbara Ann Stott.
She was a member of Hardy Central Baptist as well as the American Legion Post 233 Aux., a lifetime member of VFW Post 8529 Aux., and the Sandston Moose 1937. She was a 1963 graduate of Varina High School and was Miss Varinian, 1960-61.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Donald Ray Small, Jr.; her children, David W. Small (Belinda) and Darren R. Small (Jacky); grandchildren, Dillon R. Small (Courtney), McKinley M. Smith (Kody) & Cassie R. Small; 5 great grandchildren; and brother, William “Tommy” Foster, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 30 from 5 – 8 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, where a funeral service will be held, Thursday, October 1 at 12 pm. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hardy Central Baptist Church, 4655 Darbytown Rd, Henrico, VA 23231.
