Obituary - Roland Jerome Preston
Roland Jerome Preston, 83, of Henrico, peacefully transitioned July 16, 2026 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He was the third of five children born to the late Marian Forbes Preston and Deacon William Preston, Sr.
He grew up in Churchill and was educated in the Richmond Public School system. At the age of ten, he accepted Christ and joined Fourth Baptist Church. Roland was a Navy Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1961.
Roland was employed in the hotel industry for over 50 years retiring from The Jefferson Hotel. He was a "back in the day kind of guy" and his passions were old school music, bartending, hanging out at his favorite spots, O.B.'S, Ike's, Otto's, and Guy's, playing cards and billiards. Whenever you saw him, he was always wearing his hat cocked to the side and had a walk like no other. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reminiscing, watching old westerns, baseball, wrestling, and football. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.
In addition to his loving parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Preston, Jr. and Frederick D. Preston.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted daughter and caregiver, Yolanda Evans Robinson; two devoted grandchildren, Tyrel (Diamond) and Travell Noel; three great-grandchildren, Trenton, Tyler, and Tobias Noel; two devoted sisters, Marian Preston Christian (Frederick) and Vanessa Preston Jones (Ronnie); a host of nieces and nephews, devoted niece, Joyce Preston Washington (Orlando); devoted nephew, Kelvin Preston (Lenora); three sisters-in-law, Janie Preston, Gertrude Preston, and Lavinia Preston; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2026 at Scott's Chapel, 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor iii, Eulogist. Interment private.
