Obituary - Phillip Avery Wilson
Phillip Avery Wilson, of Henrico, departed this life July 24, 2026. He was born on July 1, 1992, in Monticello, New York, to Darlene and Michael D. Wilson Sr. As the youngest child born to this union, it was evident from the very beginning that Phillip would be special—he arrived more than two weeks past his due date!
Phillip's spiritual foundation was established at his family's home church, Bethlehem Temple Church on Fairground Road in Monticello. It was there that he was baptized in Jesus' name and began his personal relationship with the Lord.
He attended Monticello Public Schools from kindergarten through second grade. He later continued his education in Richmond, Virginia, through Henrico County Public Schools, graduating from John Randolph Tucker High School in 2011.
From a very young age, Phillip developed a love for playing the drums and participating in sports. He faithfully served in the music ministries at Meadowood Church of God and Church of Jesus Christ, graciously using his God-given gift to glorify the Lord. His passion for football, baseball, and basketball afforded him the opportunity to play throughout his school years and in several recreational leagues. Phillip shined brightly on every field and every court he stepped onto. Along the way, he formed lasting friendships with teammates whose bonds remain strong to this day.
Phillip's love for his family and friends was unparalleled. Coming from a large family, he held a special place in the hearts of his ten aunts and two uncles. Above all, however, his greatest love was for his mother, son, sisters, brother and girlfriend. You could often find Phillip sharing a meal with his mother, Darlene; relaxing on the couch, quoting movie lines and laughing with his sister, MyKala; talking about life with his brother, Michael; or creating cherished memories with his beloved girlfriend, Tamesha, and their son, Elisha.
In addition to his father, Phillip was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pastor A.V. and Mother Octavia Gandy; paternal grandparents, Willie Jean Curtis and Albert Wilson and three nephews, Yuriah Morris, Avian and Adrian Wilson.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted mother, Darlene Gandy-Wilson; cherished son, Elisha Avery Wilson; two sisters, MyKala Ashton and Malaina Wilson; brother, Michael D. Wilson Jr.; beloved girlfriend, Tamesha Woods; godmothers, Sarah Atherly and Lizette Pearson; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to honor his legacy.
Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2026. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8 at Meadowood Church of God, 325 Azalea Avenue, Richmond, VA 23227. Bishop Robert L. Locklear, Jr., Officiant/Eulogist. Interment private.
Though his departure was truly untimely, we rest in the confidence that he is with the Lord. Phillip was loaned to us for 34 years and we will hold on to all the love he gave and poured into each of us. We boldly declare the promise of God's Word—that one day He will wipe away every tear, there will be no more death, and we will be reunited with Phillip again.
