Obituary - Mildred Lumsden Ammons
Mildred Lumsden Ammons, 101, a native of North Carolina and a resident of Newport News for 38 years before moving to The Masonic Home of Virginia in Richmond in 2001, died August 22, 2026. She was preceded in death by er husband of 57 years, Woodrow Ammons, in 2004.
For many years she was the Administrative Assistant and Executive Secretary to the Executive Director of Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Later, she was the secretary to the senior pastor of Temple Baptist Church where she served as an adult Sunday School teacher for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Ammons Wright of Tega Cay, South Carolina; two nieces, Adair Pickard and Sandra Morrissey (Don); three great-nieces, Beth Patterson, Suzanne Morrissey and Michelle Morrissey; and one great-nephew, John Pickard.
She enjoyed music, dancing, writing, poetry, reading, trivia and working crossword puzzles.
A graveside service will be held in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Va. at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 1. A Memorial Service and Eastern Star Service in the Chapel of The Masonic Home of Virginia will follow that day at 2 p.m.
