Margaret Crump Clifton, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and treasured member of the Glen Allen community, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 23, 2025, at the age of 96.

Born on March 23, 1929, in New Kent, Virginia, Margaret lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. A long-standing and faithful member of Glen Allen Baptist Church, she found deep joy and purpose in her church family and community.

Margaret was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James H. Clifton, Sr., and her beloved son, Steve Clifton. Together, Margaret and James built a life filled with love, laughter, and a passion for hospitality that culminated in Margaret becoming the first owner and innkeeper of The Virginia Cliffe Inn. Through the Inn, she welcomed guests from near and far, treating each one with the warmth and grace that defined her life.

She leaves behind a loving family who carry on her legacy: her children Karen Baugh (Gerry), Janice Clifton (Cris Foster), and James H. Clifton Jr. (Peggy); grandchildren Sarah Clifton, Rebecca Hertzler, Jen Netherwood (Neil), Ashley Kruger (Eddie), Joel Clifton, Andrew Melton ,and Laura Edwards (Mike),; and great-grandchildren Alya Hertzler, Jake Hertzler, Cayden Hertzler, Wayland Edwards, and Kennedy Edwards.

Margaret was the heart of the Clifton family. She loved to cook meals that brought everyone together, to sew with care and creativity, and to tend to her garden, always finding beauty in every bloom. Her legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength lives on in each person she touched.

She will be remembered not only for her deep love for her family and friends, but for the way she made everyone feel at home-whether around her kitchen table or as a guest in her inn. Her life was a reflection of her generous spirit, her unwavering faith, and her extraordinary ability to make others feel cherished.

She will be dearly missed.

Graveside services will be held privately.
