Obituary - Joseph Thomas Coltes
Joseph Thomas “Joe” Coltes, 77, who retired to Hague, VA, after living in the Richmond, Highland Springs, Sandston area, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2026.
He was a devoted husband, a talented painter for many years, a proud member of AA for over 20 years and an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Weagley Coltes; parents, William and Maude Coltes; siblings, Shirley Coltes, Raymond “Ray” Coltes, Madeline George, Virginia Mabry and Frances Linka; nephew, “Ricky” Lawson; grandson, Scott Rushing; and grandnephew, Damian Jennings.
He is survived by his sister, Alma Lou Lumpkin; children, John Rushing (Susan), James Rushing (Jennifer) and Garland Rushing; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 8, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Virginia 23231 where a service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
