Obituary - James Edward McCaffrey

James Edward McCaffrey of Richmond passed away on September 22, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Rhea Dobson McCaffrey of Richmond; his daughter, Mary (Molly) Louise McTighe; his granddaughter, Madelyn Maye Schwimer; and his great-granddaughter, Haisley Schwimer. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Meagan Louise Adams.

James attended Douglas Freeman High School and proudly served aboard destroyers in the United States Navy. He was a 1972 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. Thereafter, he served as a police officer with the Henrico County Division of Police.

For approximately 30 years, James was associated with various insurance enterprises in Richmond. Notably, he served with the Home Insurance Company and USF&G and was President of Old Virginia Insurers, Inc.

A private service for the family will be planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Doberman Rescue Unlimited, Inc., in James’s memory.
